Far Harbour 39 (Short)

Are container ships the key to cruising? They could be if you don’t have time to sail to a destination but do want to sail your own boat at a distant destination. According to Container Yachts of Middletown, Rhode Island, its new Far Harbour 39 is the first cruising boat designed to fit in a shipping container; it will make cruising far-off waters as easy as loading the container onto a ship. The idea is simple: Put your boat in a container and ship it to where you want to cruise. It will be waiting for you when you step off the plane. The boat’s design challenges were met by Bob Perry. It’s necessarily long (39 feet) and thin (7-foot, 3-inch beam), and its length-to-beam ratio is similar to that of the old 12-Meter boats. It is built so it can be loaded and unloaded using standard boatyard equipment. It’s hardly a trailersailer, but it could be a viable option for cruisers with special needs.
