Free Checks
By Charles Mason

With the spring sailing season well underway it’s time to take advantage of a free Vessel Safety Check performed by a qualified member of the U.S Coast Guard Auxiliary. Getting a check of your boat and its equipment is a great way to learn about details that could be a violation of state or federal law and get suggestions about potential on board problems that could become a problem on the water. An Act of Congress created the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary in 1939 and it supports the Coast Guard in all missions, except military and direct law enforcement actions. To find a Vessel Examiner go to www.vesselsafetycheck.org, then click on "I Want a VSC" to find a qualified Vessel Examiner near you.
